About IChing Tool

Why This Site Exists

Most I Ching resources online fall into two extremes: dry academic translations that feel disconnected from life, or vague fortune-telling sites that reduce 3,000 years of wisdom to horoscope-level advice. IChing Tool tries to be neither.

We built this site to make the I Ching genuinely useful โ€” as a thinking framework for real decisions, not a crystal ball. Every reading, article, and guide here is grounded in classical texts and traditional methods.

About Li Zecheng

I'm Li Zecheng (ๆŽๆณฝๆˆ), a Chinese researcher with a deep interest in classical Chinese wisdom traditions. I grew up in China surrounded by these ideas โ€” not as "Eastern philosophy" but as the living culture my grandparents quoted at the dinner table.

My primary areas of study include:

  • The I Ching (ๆ˜“็ป) โ€” the Book of Changes. I focus on the Wilhelm-Baynes translation for English readers and the original Chinese text, treating the hexagrams as maps of how situations evolve rather than predictions of fixed outcomes.
  • Plum Blossom Numerology (ๆข…่Šฑๆ˜“ๆ•ฐ) โ€” a divination method from Song Dynasty scholar Shao Yong (้‚ต้›). It derives hexagrams from time, numbers, and observed phenomena. This is the method I use in every "News ร— I Ching" article on this site.
  • Dao De Jing (้“ๅพท็ป) โ€” Laozi's text on the nature of change, balance, and effortless action. Many concepts in the I Ching become clearer when read alongside the Dao De Jing.
  • Chinese Metaphysics โ€” BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny), feng shui principles, and the traditional Chinese almanac (้ป„ๅކ). These systems share a common root in Yin-Yang and Five Elements theory.

I'm not a fortune-teller or a spiritual guru. I'm someone who finds these ancient systems genuinely useful for thinking about complex situations, and I wanted to share that perspective with English-speaking readers who might not otherwise have access to it.

Our Approach

The I Ching is not magic. It's a structured way to examine a situation from angles you might not naturally consider. When you cast a hexagram, you're not receiving a prophecy โ€” you're engaging with a 3,000-year-old framework that maps the patterns of change in human affairs.

Our AI-powered readings use the Wilhelm-Baynes translation (widely considered the gold standard in English) and add contextual interpretation to help you apply the hexagram's wisdom to your specific question. The technology serves the tradition, not the other way around.
